Yu: Do you mean a further reduction of 50 dollars in our price? That¡¯s impossible.

Alex: The best we can do is another 30 dollars off. That¡¯s the definitely the lowest we can go.
Wen: That still leaves a gap of 20 dollars. Let¡¯s meet each other half-way again and split the difference, i think this is a price we can both be satisfied with.
Alex: Ok, we can meet halfway again.
Wen: I¡¯m glad that we¡¯ve settled the price. Now what about the terms of payment?
Alex: We only accept payment by confirmed letter of credit.
Wen: What about D/A?
Alex: Sorry, payment by L/C is our usual practice with all customers. As a matter of fact, L/C protects the seller as well as the payment.
Wen: Then is D/P acceptable to you?
Alex: I¡¯m afraid we must insist on our usual form.
Wen: In opening a letter of credit with a bank i have to pay a deposit. That will tie up my funds.
Alex: You might consult with your bank and see if it can reduce the required deposit to a minimum.
Wen: Still there will be certain bank charges. To meet each other halfway, what do you say to 50% by L/C and the balance by D/P?
