(It's 13:40 pm Dec. 15th. 2009 of EST in USA and 2:40 am Dec. 16th. 2009 of BJT in China now. I am here at the States' Best Cafe located at the 2nd floor of Boston Downtown library in Massachusetts introducing something interesting in USA for you all briefly.)
衣(Clothing)
(According to my knowledge, more than 80% of the apparel selling here are made in China. And the sizes of the clothes here are bigger than those in China, yet the prices are almost the same. Moreover, the zips of the coats are fixed at the left side here while right side in China. I guess the reason probably is there are too many left-hand people here. LOL)
食(Food)
(It's quite different of the food between America and China. And the food here are more expensive than that in China. If you enjoy your meal at restaurants, you should pay for the tips, usually accounting for 10% of your meal price. Interestingly, people here love to enjoy their meal using their hands directly which seems not acceptable in China. Furthermore, It's very normal to have the meals with drinks and desserts. Be careful, they love to add ice into the drinks. If you order a glass of water without any request, they will absolutely give you a glass of water with ice, no matter it's in summer or winter. They enjoy the desserts after meal. The desserts are super sweet!!)
住(Shelter)
(Most living houses here are pretty low, usually one or two floors, and most of them are bulit by wood. However, all of them are pretty nice. Most of the tall buildings in the cities are business buildings here. I found that American know how to enjoy the life. For examole, each home has cooler, heater, dishwasher, washing machine and clothing dryer, which means you can dress the clothes directly after drying without airing outside. All of these are quite different from those in China.)
(The road system here are impeccable, however, the public transportation are unconvenient except in big cities. There are no subways, no buses and no taxi in small cities and small towns. Because each American family have 3 cars averagely. There are more cars than people here! If you live in small city without having your own car, you will find you can't go anywhere. However, it's lucky that the cars here are pretty cheap comparing with China. I bought a nice car couple days ago, which costed me $3,000, about 20,000RMB.)
(Hope the introduction above make you better understand the American culture.)
Thank LONDON for this article about the basic necessities in U.S.A.
Obviously, your English is getting better and better, and I guess your spokenEnglish also made great progress.I am quite envious that you'll soon be able tospeak fluent American English. However, please do not forget our native dialect.LOL
We all look foward to your next article. Could you talk about your study next time,as for as i know, America's educational methods with China's educational is very different as well the teacher's teaching methods, whether it made you feel morereceptive to it when you had your first lesson in U.S.A?
My English is so poor, but i'm improving , your writing English is very useful for me even for other person who like speaking English, so pls come here more if you feel free, i really appreciate your English article.
i think the European people's life is mostly similar to USA. As most usa citiziens were immigrated from Europe. Ex. a lot of Spainish people in USA, they hundreds of years ago moved to North America and South America.
to understand well about the living styles, the best way is living there, to talk to the local people, to work with the people. IT is not that easy to get used to the life because culture differences, like foods, languages, habits...
By the way, speaking English is not that difficult and not that importent as some people think. The language is just a communication tool for me. You just open your month and speak. That is it.
Ok, i agree with you, each country has it own cultural accumulation, of course. their lifestyle, eating habits are different. Chinese people also can live a comfortable life when our country is rich enough, China becomes developed country.
Hey, Stone and 卫青, you two guys speak nice English. I am so glad to know that.
Just as you guys know, English is a communication tool, however, it IS an extremely important tool for us who wanna connect with the world more closely.
Most Jap dont speak english well. what i think is to show your mother language to all over the world. Speaking other language is OK. Why dont we think that the global language is not Chinses in stead of English? The world is always under the rules by powerfull cuntry. One day, it may be China. S0, the point is we need to be strong and powerful. Then Chinese (mandarine)becomes global. Keeping closd touch with people, would be mandarine, one day
